The Herne Bay wastewater truck sewer upgrade is a key component of a broader initiative to enhance wastewater services across the western isthmus. This project aims to reduce environmental overflows and improve the quality of local waterways and beaches, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable environment for the community. The upgrade primarily involves constructing a 1.6 km long tunnel, with a diameter of up to 2.1 metres. This tunnel will be constructed using a tunnel boring machine beneath the road, and will connect to the extension of the Central Interceptor (CI) project, an extensive network designed to manage wastewater more efficiently across the region.
