Mangere Treatment Plant: Biogas Emergency Shutdown System Upgrade

Client: Watercare
Location: Auckland
Service Line: Project Management Delivery
Team: Jay Suta

This project focuses on upgrading the emergency shut-off system for a high-flammable biogas piping network, which generates 6.8MW of power. The energy produced could power 6,800 homes but is instead directed back into the Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant, providing a sustainable energy solution for the facility.

With a project value of $6.5 million, the scope involves complex design changes to system processes and controls, as well as high-risk construction work. This upgrade is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the biogas system within the treatment plant.

Frequency was appointed as Project Manager for the design and construction of this project.
