In January 2022, Frequency was engaged to provide Project Management services to the Auckland Light Rail Group – a collaboration among the Ministry of Transport, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities and Mana Whenua.
As the project heads into the scoping and pre-construction planning phase for the City Centre to Māngere section, this includes tunnelling from the City Centre to Mt Roskill and then at street level to Onehunga and the airport. Future light rail lines are envisaged for the North Shore and North West.
Auckland Light Rail is more than a transport project. With high capacity features, the project will create a new public transport option bringing wider benefits. This includes more employment and education opportunities, encouraged housing development and reduced emissions and sprawl. Light rail is a crucial element to unlock future urban uplift in Auckland.
