Hobsonville Point – Launch Road and Hobsonville Point Road
Client: HLC / Panuku Development Auckland
Dates: January 2014 – September 2014
Project Location: Auckland
Frequency Role: Project Manager and Engineer to the Contract
Hobsonville Land Company Limited (HLC) is leading the redevelopment of Hobsonville Point; a master planned urban redevelopment of 167ha on the old Hobsonville Airbase site.
Once complete, Hobsonville Point will include 3,000 homes, with an approximate residential population of 8,000 people, two new schools, shops, employment, parks, marine industry provision, and community facilities.
Panuku Development Auckland (Panuku) and HLC have a joint infrastructure agreement to develop and fund various new infrastructure to the developments, including joint funding of Launch Rd and Hobsonville Point Road.
Hobsonville Point Road is a public road with a 6 metre total carriageway, parallel parking and 3-3.5 meter wide footpaths on both sides. It benefits from a focus on high quality landscaping including feature trees and planting and a central swale.
Launch Road is a high quality concrete pavement roadway running down to the waterfront, incorporating feature landscape design footpaths, planting and tree planters. The project also incorporates architecturally design feature stairs from Launch Road down to The Landing and a feature gabion basket retaining wall with artwork “Estuarine” by Louise Purvis.
Key Challenges managed by Frequency:
- Interface with other projects also underway in Hobsonville. Frequency established construction coordination meetings to create a forum for information sharing and coordination of activities.
- Extensive existing live and redundant underground services (power, telecoms, water, wastewater, stormwater) with inaccurate and incomplete records owing to the nature of the site.
