The Mechanical Redevelopment programme resulted from the damage of the Christchurch earthquake to KiwiRail’s Mechanical Hub facilities in 2011. Frequency was engaged as Project Manager to coordinate and manage the multidisciplinary design process, and KiwiRail stakeholders to develop the concept for the new facilities. The complexities of designing and constructing in an operating rail yard required a collaborative and innovative approach throughout the entire project. The ongoing staged completion of the new Mechanical Hub has delivered both enhanced functionality and an environmentally sustainable solution for KiwiRail.
