Frequency are excited to announce that Peter Neilson will be joining us as an Executive Consultant. Peter has an interesting and diverse background as a former Minister of Works, Chairman of the National Roads Board, Minister of Revenue and Associate Minister of Finance.

Since leaving politics, Peter has been an economist and international public sector reform consultant. He has been the project director for numerous cross agency reform projects in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Namibia.

Peter has 30 years of experience successfully managing challenging policy and organisational reform projects in New Zealand and around the world by developing practical solutions for difficult problems. By getting the best out of advisors and contractors, while working with risk adverse decision makers he has won second and third project management roles with the same clients.

An economist, international consultant, corporate finance adviser and former Minister, he can find the sweet spot where the policy proposals and the politics both work. Peter is experienced in working with multi-skilled teams to find the best and most broadly supported solutions for challenging issues.

Peter initiated and led the first cross sector (agricultural, regional council, environmentalist, irrigator and generator interests) study of fresh water management which led to the collaborative fresh water management process adopted by the Government. He also initiated and led a cross sector study on how New Zealand could cope with a potential 100% growth in freight volumes, particularly impacting the “golden triangle” between Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga. These are a just a few examples of the various projects he has directed.

More recently he was the CEO of the Financial Services Council and before that CEO of the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development. He is the Chair of the Simplicity Charitable Trust which “owns” the low fee, not-for-profit KiwiSaver provider Simplicity. He is also on the board of the environmental organisation WWF New Zealand.

Peter lives in Ellerslie with his wife Megan who works at the Auckland Medical School. They have two adult children. He is a self-confessed policy nerd and polling junky. He has bred thoroughbred racehorses in New Zealand, Australia and Kentucky.

We look forward to Peter becoming part of the Frequency team and eager to get started on an array of new projects together.
